Gilt Metal Singing Bird Automaton Cage, 19th century - Gilt metal mechanical singing bird automaton cage, probably late 19th century, with domed wire cage, floral embossed octagonal base, ring handle finial, hinged front door, winding key, and feathered bird perched inside. Mechanism winds and operates, producing bird sound and movement. Marked ”France” on the bottom. 20 1/2 in. H x 10 in. Dia. Condition: Good overall condition with age-related gilt wear, tarnish, scattered surface oxidation and wear to feathered bird. Mechanism winds and was observed making sound and movement.
