New Hampshire Federal Mahogany and Mixed-Wood Chest with Gallery, c. 1810-1820 - A striking New Hampshire Federal chest of drawers, circa 1810-1820, in mahogany and mixed secondary woods, featuring a beautifully figured two-tone facade with contrasting drawer veneers, four graduated long drawers, and a fitted gallery above with three small drawers beneath a shaped backsplash. The case is framed by dramatic rope-twist and ring-turned front posts, continuing to turned legs, with simpler rear turned legs. The gallery terminates in scrolled ears mounted with brass rosettes, and the chest retains handsome brass pulls and escutcheons that complement the warm mahogany color and bold figured drawer fronts. The lower skirt is shaped with a scalloped apron. 54 in. H, 44 in. W, 20.5 in. D. Condition: Good condition with expected age and use wear. Surface scratches, finish wear, small veneer imperfections, minor losses, shrinkage lines, and scattered abrasions throughout. Rear boards show old wear, scuffing, and oxidation. Drawers show age-appropriate wear to sides and interiors. Brass hardware appears old and well-suited to the piece.
