American Classical Mahogany Marble-Top Center Table, c. 1840 - An American Classical mahogany center or parlor table, circa 1840, having a circular black marble top with bold gold and cream veining, above a deep circular skirt with figured mahogany veneer, applied beaded molding, and four scrolling lyre-form supports with carved acanthus or leaf terminals. The supports rise from a shaped lower platform stretcher with conforming bead molding, ending in boldly scrolled feet fitted with brass casters. A substantial Classical parlor form with strong decorative presence, retaining what appears to be its original black and gold marble top, traditionally described as Egyptian marble. 28.5 in. H, 38 in. W, 29.5 in. D. Condition: Good overall antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scattered surface scratches, minor veneer and finish wear, and small losses or abrasions to edges and applied molding. Marble top with expected surface scratches and edge wear. Frame appears structurally sound. Casters present.
