French Carved Walnut Cave Liqueur / Tantalus, Mid 19th Century - A handsome French carved walnut cave liqueur or tantalus, mid 19th century, the rectangular case with beveled glass panels to the top, front, and sides, framed by deeply carved floral, foliate, scroll, and shell decoration. The case opens to reveal a complete fitted gilt-metal mounted interior with four cut and engraved glass decanters and a suite of matching cordial glasses, the glassware decorated with engraved floral and foliate motifs. The interior tray is fitted with a gilt-metal bottle and glass stand, the whole presenting as an unusually decorative and well-preserved 19th-century French liquor cabinet. 11.5 in. H, 16.5 in. W, 12 in. D. Condition: Good overall antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions, and small losses or rubs to the walnut case and carved decoration. Beveled glass panels with expected light scratches and minor edge wear. Interior complete with four decanters and matching cordial glasses; glassware with expected minor wear. Presents very well.
