English Mahogany and Satinwood Inlaid Letter Box, 19th C. - A fine English mahogany letter box, 19th century, of large slant-front form with richly figured mahogany veneers and contrasting satinwood inlay. The hinged lid is decorated with a central oval fan-form cartouche, framed by fine string inlay and geometric banding, with additional inlaid panels to the front and canted corners. The front retains an ornate metal escutcheon with tasseled key, opening to a fitted interior with multiple letter and stationery compartments beneath a green baize-lined lid. Raised on small metal bun feet. 13.5 in. H, 14 in. W, 9.5 in. D. Condition: Good overall antique condition. Interior compartments are present and attractive. Key and tassel present.
