Classical Crotch-Mahogany Chest of Drawers, American, circa 1830-1845 - An American Classical chest of drawers, circa 1830-1845, featuring richly figured crotch-mahogany drawer fronts arranged with strong bookmatched flame patterning. The case is fitted with two short drawers over three graduated long drawers, each retaining brass oval bail pulls and brass escutcheons. The rectangular top shows a well-figured mahogany surface, above a case framed by boldly turned and spiral-carved front columns with rounded lower turnings. The side panels are plainer mahogany, providing a pleasing contrast to the dramatic crotch-figured front. 38 in. H, 40.5 in. W, 19.5 in. D. Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, including surface scratches, finish wear, small abrasions, veneer checking, minor losses, shrinkage lines, and scattered case wear. Backboards show expected wear, scuffing, and later surface marks. Drawers retain visible dovetail construction and secondary wood interiors.
