Pair of English Gilt Brass and Cut Glass Argand Lamps by Messenger & Sons - Fine pair of English gilt brass Argand table lamps by Messenger & Sons, Birmingham, circa 1830, each marked on the burner collar. The lamps retain their classical urn-form oil reservoirs with domed caps, foliate cast galleries hung with cut glass prism drops, side-mounted burner arms fitted with frosted and cut glass shades having Greek key and fluted decoration, and clear glass chimneys. Each raised on a shaped gilt brass base with cast paw feet and foliate mounts. Later electrified. 20.5 in. high x 13 in. wide x 8 in. deep. Condition: Very good overall presentation. Later electrification. Gilt brass with polish, minor rubbing, surface scratches, and scattered oxidation/wear consistent with age and use. Glass shades, chimneys, and prisms intact. minor flea bites to prisms.
