Rococo Revival Carved Rosewood Center Table, American, mid-19th century - A fine American Rococo Revival carved rosewood center table, mid-19th century, in the manner of high-style New York cabinetmakers such as J. & J. W. Meeks or John Henry Belter. The table features a shaped oval serpentine top with boldly carved gadrooned and foliate edge, above a conforming apron with pendant drops, beaded trim, pierced foliate brackets, and a finely carved central pedestal base. The base is especially elaborate, with clustered scroll supports, urn-form and foliate carving, pendant finials, cabochon-style reserves, and four sweeping cabriole legs terminating in scrolled feet on casters. From Ormonde Plantation, Natchez, Mississippi. 28 in. H, 52.5 in. W, 35 in. D. Condition: Good condition with age-appropriate surface wear, minor finish wear, small veneer and molding separations and expected wear around the carved edge.
