Pair of American Classical Marble-Top Pier Tables, circa 1835-1850 - A fine matched pair of American Classical pier tables, circa 1835-1850, each with an original shaped white marble top above a richly figured mahogany case. The frieze on each table is carved with a central shell and scrolling foliate ornament, above a shaped lower apron and mirrored back panel. Each table is supported by bold lyre-form scrolled supports terminating in circular volutes, raised on stepped plinth bases with gadrooned molding and scroll feet. The mahogany shows attractive flame and crotch figuring throughout. A desirable true pair, retaining their period form, marble tops, and mirrored backs. Each approximately 36 in. H, 35 in. W, 18 in. D. Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, including surface scratches, veneer wear, small chips, finish rubbing, scattered losses, and wear to bases and rear surfaces. Marble tops intact with expected staining, edge wear, discoloration, and minor surface scratches. Mirror plates show age, silvering loss, spotting, and wear. Originality of all components appears likely from inspection.
