Large devotional painting depicting the Virgin Mary standing upon clouds and a crescent moon, her hands crossed at her chest and gaze raised heavenward, wearing a white robe and deep blue mantle, with cherubic heads emerging from the upper left celestial cloudbank. The composition follows Murillo?s celebrated Spanish Baroque Immaculate Conception type, particularly the El Escorial / Los Venerables formula of the Virgin in blue and white, surrounded by light, clouds, angels, and the crescent moon. Presented in a large ornate giltwood frame with scrolling foliate ornament. Accompanied by conservation paperwork from Hudson + Salah Art Conservation Studios documentation, New Orleans, 2012, for conservation work including cleaning, lining, restretching, filling, inpainting, and varnishing, with invoice totaling $3,270. Hudson + Salah stretcher label to verso listls client, title ?Immaculate, ? and size 40 x 60. Framed dimensions: 73 in. H x 52 in. W x 5 in. D. Condition: Professionally conserved and lined; later custom stretcher and frame supports visible to verso. Conservation paperwork notes prior old repairs, cleaning, lining, filling, inpainting, and varnishing. Craquelure and surface texture visible; scattered frame wear, rubbing, losses, and old repairs to gilt frame.
