New York Classical Mahogany and Stenciled Chest of Drawers, Circa 1825-1840 - New York Classical mahogany chest of drawers, circa 1825-1840, having a raised gallery with three small drawers above a projecting writing or dressing surface, over a case fitted with three long drawers. The case features richly figured mahogany drawer fronts, turned front supports, black-painted engaged columns, and a distinctive black cylindrical front rail decorated with gilt fruit, floral, and foliate stenciling. The columns retain additional gilt stencil decoration, and the drawers are fitted with decorative brass floral pulls and escutcheons. Raised on turned front legs with plain paneled sides and back. 42 in. H, 36.5 in. W, 21 in. D Condition: Overall good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scattered scratches, finish wear, minor veneer and edge losses, and expected abrasions to the painted and stenciled surfaces. Interior drawer construction and back boards show age and use. Hardware appears stylistically appropriate and presents well.
