Southern Sheraton Cherry Step-Back Cupboard / Jackson Press - Southern Sheraton cherry step-back cupboard, often called a Jackson press in the Southern market, circa 1820?1840, in two-part form with an upper glazed bookcase/cupboard section over a lower case fitted with two drawers above paneled cupboard doors. The upper section has a molded projecting cornice above two glazed doors with divided lights, opening to shelved interior storage. The lower case is fitted with two short drawers above two paneled doors, raised on turned front legs, with simple paneled sides and horizontal board back. The piece shows attractive cherry primary wood and secondary pine/poplar construction. 94.5 in. H, 34.5 in. W, 17.5 in. D. Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, scratches, scuffs, finish wear, staining, and minor losses. Glass panes appear wavy/older. Minor shrinkage, case separations, and surface irregularities consistent with age and use.
