American Classical Mahogany Server with Carved Backsplash, circa 1840-1850 - A fine American Classical mahogany server, circa 1840-1850, the rectangular case with a boldly shaped and carved backsplash featuring scroll, shell, floral, and leaf ornament above a figured mahogany panel. The server is fitted with two upper drawers, three side drawers, and a pair of central cupboard doors, with richly figured flame and crotch mahogany veneers throughout the front and backsplash. The case is flanked by rope-twist engaged front columns over turned legs ending in casters, with molded top edge, paneled sides, and decorative floral-form pulls. The backsplash likely original to the piece, reflecting the transition from the American Classical taste into the more ornamental mid-19th century style. 59 in. H, 45 in. W, 22 in. D. Condition: Good overall presentation with expected surface wear, finish wear, veneer checking, scattered scratches, abrasions, and age cracks consistent with age and use.
