American Classical Stenciled Mahogany Chest of Drawers, New York - American Classical mahogany chest of drawers, New York, circa 1825?1840, having a rectangular case with rounded front molding over a projecting upper drawer divided visually as two short drawers flanking a central lock stile, above four long graduated drawers. The drawer fronts are veneered in richly figured mahogany with striking crotch and flame grain. The case is flanked by dramatic ebonized full columns with gilt stencil decoration and ring-turned collars, terminating in carved paw feet. Retains ornate gilt brass rosette pulls and escutcheons, with original or period-appropriate hardware. Secondary woods visible at the drawer sides and backboards. 51.5 in. H, 49.5 in. W, 22.5 in. D. Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, finish wear, scuffs, scratches, veneer shrinkage, minor separations, and scattered losses. Gilt stencil decoration on columns shows expected rubbing and losses. Some drawer/case separation and surface irregularities visible. Backboards show wear, scratches, oxidation, and old marks.
