Carved Oak Renaissance Revival Sideboard with Mirror, Attr. to R.J. Horner - A carved oak Renaissance Revival sideboard or server with mirror, late 19th century, part of a carved oak dining suite. The shaped case is fitted with a serpentine glass-covered top, central stacked drawers, side cabinet doors, and boldly carved figural panels with putti, female masks, grape clusters, foliate scrolls, and paw-form feet. The large shaped mirror is framed by carved female figures, leaf-carved supports, and an elaborate pierced crest with opposing carved birds and foliate ornament. The sideboard is the visual anchor of the suite and displays the strongest Horner-type characteristics, including figural mirror supports, carved putti, grape clusters, paw feet, and a dramatic opposing-bird crest. 71 in. H, 53.5 in. W, 22.5 in. D. Condition: good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, finish variation, surface scratches, minor chips and losses, scattered veneer or carving wear, and oxidation/silvering to mirror plate. Glass top is later or protective.
