American Classical Flame Mahogany Chest of Drawers, c. 1825-1840 - An American Classical chest of drawers, circa 1825-1840, probably New York or Philadelphia, crafted in richly figured flame and crotch mahogany with crossbanded case decoration and bold architectural proportions. The chest features a projecting rectangular top with heavy rounded front molding above four graduated drawers, the upper drawer deeply projecting and veneered with dramatic bookmatched crotch mahogany. The case is flanked by boldly carved columnar front supports with acanthus and foliate carving, raised on carved paw feet. 46 in. H, 47 in. W, 20 in. D. Condition: Good overall antique condition with expected age shrinkage, veneer checking, finish wear, surface scratches, abrasions, small losses, and scattered repairs consistent with age and use.
