(Irish/British, 1786-1863), ”The Last In.” Unsigned. Interior schoolroom genre scene depicting a schoolmaster leaning forward from his desk and bowing in mock deference to a late-arriving boy at left, with gathered schoolchildren looking on, a dog peeking from the left interior, and a landscape visible through the open doorway beyond. Housed in a later gilt and faux burlwood frame. Accompanied by a July 22, 2010 invoice from Hudson + Salah Art Conservation Studios, New Orleans, Louisiana, identifying the work as ?Classroom Genre, ? oil on canvas, unsigned, 16 x 22 in. The invoice documents professional conservation including removal of discolored varnish and surface dirt, lining onto Belgian linen with reversible BEVA 371 adhesive, restretching onto the original reconditioned stretcher, reversible fills/inpainting, and final reversible acrylic resin varnish. Frame dimensions: 44.5 in. H, 30 in. W, 2 in. D Condition: Good overall presentation. Surface craquelure, varnish discoloration/glare, and minor scattered surface wear visible.
