French Green Sevres-Style Clock Garniture - Origin: France Date: Late 19th early 20th century Period/Style: Louis XVI Revival in the Sevres taste Materials: Green-ground porcelain, polychrome and gilt decoration, gilt metal, brass, glass, and steel clock movement Form: Three-piece mantel clock garniture Description: A three-piece French green-ground porcelain and gilt-metal clock garniture in the Sevres taste. The architectural mantel clock has a domed case surmounted by a twin-handled tazza, four decorative finials, Corinthian columns, and a gilt Roman-numeral dial above a polychrome gallant garden scene. The matching urn-form side pieces display courting figures above pedestal bases decorated with rustic landscapes. The twin-train movement strikes on a coiled gong. Accompanied by two winding keys. Marks: Inscribed Made in France on the reverse. An internal metal component is stamped F.B. 10 24. The reverse retains a substantially fragmentary American clock-repair label with handwritten service notation. Dimensions: Clock: 17 in. H, 11.5 in. W, 6.5 in. D. Condition: Presents well with scattered rubbing and losses to the gilding, surface scratches, small edge chips and abrasions, and localized wear to the green ground, particularly along the clock base and projecting corners. Gilt-metal mounts exhibit tarnish and surface oxidation. The decorated panels substantially intact. The repair label is heavily worn and partially illegible. Two winding keys are included.
