English Early Victorian Rosewood Pole Firescreen - Origin: England Date: Early Victorian, circa 1850-1860 Period/Style: Early Victorian with Regency influences Materials: Rosewood, rosewood veneer, needlework, secondary woods, and metal hardware Form: Adjustable pole firescreen Description: A finely proportioned rosewood pole firescreen with an adjustable shaped rectangular panel enclosing needlework depicting two exotic birds amid foliage. The molded frame has scrolling corner ornaments and is mounted on a slender pole with turned finial, above a faceted standard and circular radially veneered platform base raised on three carved feet. The design retains Regency vocabulary, while the form and decoration are more consistent with the early Victorian period. Dimensions: 57 in. H; 15 in. diameter at base.
