Pair Gothic Revival Tapestry Chairs - Origin: Probably England Date: Circa 1880-1900 Period/Style: Late Victorian Gothic Revival Materials: Carved oak, woven pictorial upholstery, velvet, and metal Form: Pair of high-back side chairs Description: A matched pair of tall Gothic Revival side chairs with carved oak frames and pictorial woven backs. Each arched panel depicts a medieval figure beneath elaborate Gothic tracery, one on a blue ground and the other on a muted tan ground. Foliate cresting and urn finials crown turned colonette stiles, above round velvet-covered seats and spiral-turned legs. Decorative metal brackets reinforce the open crestwork at the reverse. The form is consistent with late Victorian British medieval-revival furnishings. Dimensions: 52 in. H, 20 in. W, 18 in. D. Seat height: 16 in.
