Pair Gilt-Bronze Green Marble Pedestals - Origin: Continental, probably France Date: Circa 1880-1900 Period/Style: Neoclassical Revival, in the Empire taste Materials: Variegated green marble, probably verde antico-type, and gilt bronze Form: Pair of pedestal or column stands Description: A large-scale matched pair of Continental, probably French, Neoclassical Revival pedestals in the Empire taste. Each has a circular green marble platform above a tapering baluster-form shaft, joined by gilt-bronze acanthus and palmette collars to an elaborate tripartite base. Pierced foliate mounts with winged ornament frame the shaped marble plinth, raised on three gilt-bronze lion-paw feet. The richly figured dark green stone and sculptural mounts give the pair a commanding late-19th-century presence. Dimensions: 49 in. H, 15 in. W, 15 in. D.
