American Sheraton Mixed-Wood Work Table - Origin: American, probably Mid-Atlantic Date: Circa 1830-1845 Period/Style: Late Federal, Sheraton Materials: Mixed hardwoods including probable walnut, figured tiger maple veneer, secondary wood, pressed glass, brass, and later felt lining Form: One-drawer work table or stand Description: A fine American Sheraton mixed-wood work table, probably Mid-Atlantic, circa 1830-1845. The broad rectangular top stands above a single hand-dovetailed drawer faced in boldly figured tiger maple veneer and fitted with a molded floral pressed-glass pull and small brass keyhole escutcheon. Contrasting case woods emphasize the drawer front. Substantial front posts continue into ring-turned, tapering legs, while more slender rear legs repeat the turning vocabulary. The deep drawer retains a later mustard-colored felt lining. Dimensions: 28 in. H, 22.5 in. W, 21 in. D. Condition: Retains an old polished surface with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, darkening, and color variation. The top has surface marks, edge wear, and minor shrinkage. Figured drawer veneer exhibits small cracks, edge imperfections, and localized wear. Drawer sides and dovetails have age-related wear. The pressed-glass pull and brass escutcheon appear period.
