Pair Continental Marble-Top Gueridons - Origin: Continental Europe, probably Italy Date: Circa 1890-1910 Period/Style: Louis XVI Revival, Neoclassical Revival Materials: Mahogany and mahogany veneer, green marble, and gilt-metal mounts Form: Pair of circular gueridon or side tables Description: A handsome pair of Continental Louis XVI Revival gueridons, probably Italian, each having a circular inset green marble top within a molded mahogany surround. The deep apron is mounted with continuous gilt-metal floral swags suspended from ribbon-tied paterae and bordered by rope-twist ornament. Three turned and tapering supports descend to a concave tripartite stretcher centered by an elaborate two-handled urn-form mount with figural ornament. Foliate mounts and gilt-metal sabots complete the richly detailed neoclassical design. Dimensions: 30.5 in. H, 24 in. Dia.
