Kentucky Cherry Diminutive Chest - Origin: Probably Kentucky Date: Circa 1830-1850 Period/Style: Late Federal, Southern vernacular Materials: Cherry, lightwood secondary woods, and wood pulls Form: Diminutive three-drawer chest Description: A finely proportioned diminutive Southern chest of drawers, probably Kentucky, constructed in cherry with three full-width hand-dovetailed drawers. The restrained case has a slightly overhanging rectangular top, paneled ends, simple wood pulls, and integral corner posts continuing into ring-turned legs with rounded feet. Its small but fully functional scale, paneled construction, cherry primary wood, and lightwood secondary construction are consistent with Kentucky and Upper South cabinetmaking of the second quarter of the 19th century. Dimensions: 27.5 in. H, 29 in. W, 15 in. D.
