Fine Victorian Rosewood Shaving Stand - Origin: Probably American Date: Circa 1855-1870 Period/Style: Victorian, Rococo and Renaissance Revival Materials: Rosewood and rosewood veneer, mixed secondary woods, white marble, mirror glass, and brass hardware Form: Gentleman's shaving or dressing stand Description: Fine Victorian rosewood gentleman's shaving stand, circa 1855-1870. The adjustable circular mirror is surrounded by an unusually elaborate concentric openwork frame supported by carved foliate scrolls and a diapered panel. A shaped white marble top surmounts a locking drawer with richly figured rosewood veneer and a finely dovetailed lidded accessory compartment. Turned corner pendants flank the case, raised on a tall ring-turned and fluted standard with carved foliate details, descending to a tripartite base of sweeping legs with carved scrolling feet. Dimensions: 63 in. H, 20 in. W, 20 in. D.
