Hartson depicting a sunlit clearing among the Berkshire Hills. A brilliant green meadow and winding earthen track lead toward layered blue-violet ridges, framed by wind-shaped trees and rocky ground beneath a softly clouded sky. Executed with vigorous, heavily worked brushstrokes and areas of impasto characteristic of a direct outdoor study. Signed Hartson at lower left and extensively inscribed on the reverse. Condition: The painting exhibits allover craquelure with open cracking, scattered lifting, and small paint losses, particularly in the sky and foreground. Additional surface grime, abrasions, minor accretions, and possible varnish discoloration are present. The period giltwood frame displays pronounced rubbing, spotting, abrasions, finish loss, and scattered edge wear. Not examined under ultraviolet light. Dimensions: 10 x 12 in
