Kentucky Classical D-Front Mahogany Bureau - Origin: Probably Kentucky Date: Circa 1835-1850 Period/Style: American Classical Materials: Mahogany and figured mahogany veneer, unidentified secondary woods, mirror glass, brass, and wood pulls Form: D-front or bow-front dressing bureau with gallery mirror Description: A monumental probable Kentucky American Classical mahogany D-front, or bow-front, dressing bureau retaining its adjustable mirror and spindle gallery. The rectangular mirror is supported by turned standards above a broad top enclosed by delicate spindles and urn-form finials. A projecting cushion-form drawer surmounts three graduated D-front drawers veneered in dramatically figured mahogany. Full-height front columns incorporate carved foliate capitals, ring turning, and elongated baluster sections, while paneled case ends and turned feet complete the imposing Southern form. Dimensions: 60 in. H, 48 in. W, 22 in. D. Provenance: From an estate in Richland, Kentucky.
