W. Meeks. The rectangular black-and-gold marble top rests above a deeply molded frieze veneered in richly figured mahogany. Exceptionally bold opposed S-scroll supports are positioned diagonally at the front corners, creating distinctive swan-like profiles centered by massive applied oval bosses. The supports terminate in emphatic projecting scroll feet flanking a shaped lower platform with paired inner volutes. An integral framed mirror completes the unusually sculptural composition. The powerful scroll supports, oval bosses, architectural scale, and fully developed side profiles relate to American Classical furniture associated with the Meeks cabinetmaking firm.
