Sheraton Mahogany Lambs-Tongue Work Table - Origin: American, probably Mid-Atlantic Date: Circa 1825-1840 Period/Style: Late Federal, Sheraton Materials: Mahogany veneer, probable cherry primary wood, probable poplar and white pine secondary woods, and turned wooden pull Form: One-drawer work table or stand Description: A fine American Sheraton work table, probably Mid-Atlantic, circa 1825-1840. The rectangular overhanging top with molded edge rests above a shallow convex hand-dovetailed drawer fitted with a turned wooden pull. Substantial front corner posts resolve through four lambs-tongue stopped chamfers into urn-and-ring turned, tapering legs ending in ringed bulb feet. More slender turned rear legs provide a refined visual hierarchy. Impressive combination of mahogany, light secondary woods, balanced proportions, and unusually articulate leg transitions. Dimensions: 30 in. H, 20 in. W, 19 in. D.
