French Renaissance Revival Oak Bookcase - Origin: France Date: Circa 1880-1890 Period/Style: Renaissance Revival Materials: Carved oak, clear glass, and metal hardware Form: Bibliotheque or library bookcase Description: A monumental French Renaissance Revival carved oak bibliotheque. The projecting molded cornice surmounts a foliate frieze centered by a winged grotesque mask. Paired arched glazed doors open to an interior fitted with adjustable wooden shelves and are flanked by full-length female caryatids above pendant fruit and flower garlands. High-relief trophy panels depict musical, artistic, and architectural attributes. A deeply carved lower drawer, paterae molding, leaf-carved plinth, and compressed bun feet complete the architecturally imposing case. Dimensions: 93 in. H, 60 in. W, 22.5 in. D.
