Victorian Rosewood Marble-Top Etagere - Origin: American Date: Circa 1865-1875 Period/Style: American Rococo Revival with Renaissance Revival detail Materials: Rosewood, white marble, mirror glass, secondary wood, and metal hardware Form: Marble-top mirrored etagere or pier mirror Description: Monumental American Victorian rosewood marble-top etagere, circa 1865-1875. The serpentine single-drawer base is fitted with a conforming white marble top with rounded projecting ends. A tall arched mirror rises beneath a molded bonnet crest centered by a carved owl head above a shield bearing paired floral rosettes. Four graduated display shelves flank each side of the mirror, supported by turned colonnettes and joined to pierced S-scroll brackets. The unusual owl crest, extensive open shelving, full-length mirror, and architectural scale distinguish this elaborate parlor form. Dimensions: 93 in. H, 60 in. W overall, 51 in. W at base, 18 in. D.
