Rare Handel Hollyhock Leaded Floor Lamp - Maker: Handel Company Origin: Meriden, Connecticut Date: Circa 1910-1920 Period/Style: American Arts and Crafts with Art Nouveau floral design Materials: Leaded opalescent glass, copper and solder shade construction, and patinated cast metal Form: Three-light floor lamp with square leaded-glass shade Description: Rare American Handel Hollyhock floor lamp featuring the documented pattern 1879 leaded-glass shade on its monumental Handel winged-lion base. The square domed shade is composed of striated green geometric glass with abundant pink and rose hollyhocks, amber centers, and variegated green foliage encircling the irregular lower border and rising along each corner. Three sculptural winged lions support the fluted standard beneath a three-socket cluster and pierced square heat cap. The shade and base retain a rich, naturally aged surface. Marks: Shade aperture impressed 1879 - 20 HANDEL. Base signed HANDEL on the upper platform and again in raised block lettering to the underside. Dimensions: 64 in. H overall, shade 20 in. W, 20 in. D, approximately 25 in. diagonally, base 14 in. Diam. Condition: Presents exceptionally well overall. Close-up photographs show scattered surface scratches, small edge flakes, and several tight hairlines or cracks within individual glass segments. Leadwork exhibits age-related patination, oxidation, and localized solder irregularities. Patinated metal base has scattered scratches, rubbing, oxidation, surface variation, and accumulated dust consistent with age. Lamp was photographed illuminated. Sockets, pull chains, wiring, glass stability, and all electrical components have not been professionally or exhaustively examined.
