Pair Boston Classical Mahogany Lyre Card Tables - Origin: American, probably Boston, Massachusetts Date: Circa 1825-1840 Period/Style: American Classical Materials: Mahogany, figured mahogany veneer, probable white pine secondary wood, iron hardware, and metal casters Form: Pair of swivel-and-fold card or games tables Description: A fine and uncommon pair of American Classical mahogany card tables, probably Massachusetts, circa 1825-1840. Each rectangular swivel-and-fold top has rounded front corners, molded edges, and richly figured mahogany surfaces, opening to a square playing surface above a concealed storage well. The molded apron is supported by a solid lyre-form pedestal carved with paired volutes and rising foliate branches. Each pedestal stands on a concave quadripartite platform with four bold reverse-curved legs terminating in distinctive inward-scrolled feet. Dimensions: Each 29 in. H, 36 in. W, 18 in. D. Each opens to approximately 36 in. D. Condition: Retain old polished surfaces with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish wear, darkening, and color variation. Tops exhibit shrinkage lines, veneer seams, small edge imperfections, surface marks, and slight unevenness. Rear apron edges and moldings have separations and wear. Carved pedestals and platform bases exhibit rubbing and minor surface losses. Casters have wear. Fold-over and swivel mechanisms are present and open and functional. Matching later marks resembling R star 3 appear on the rear rails. Additional faint markings to interior are illegible. Dimensions: 29 x 36 x 18 in
