Monumental Walnut Pier Mirror and Console - Date: Circa 1870-1890 Period/Style: Victorian, Renaissance Revival Materials: Walnut and walnut veneer, oak and mixed secondary woods, variegated marble, mirror glass, and brass hardware Form: Two-piece pier mirror with drawer-fitted console base Description: Monumental late-19th-century Victorian Renaissance Revival walnut pier mirror with its substantial matching marble-top console base. The tall architectural mirror is flanked by ring-turned columns beneath a molded cornice. The furniture-scale console incorporates a variegated marble top above a broad dovetailed drawer with paired brass pulls. Turned supports, a carved foliate stretcher panel, lower shelf, and bun feet complete the unusually substantial form. Corresponding turnings, rosette blocks, walnut surfaces, and finish identify the two components as a matched ensemble. Dimensions: 108 in. H overall, 47.5 in. W, 20.5 in. D. Marble top has pronounced veining, edge wear, and minor chips. Drawer interior has staining and wear from use. Hardware has tarnish and oxidation. Mirror plate and frame have scattered surface wear.
