Burl Walnut Chippendale Revival Highboy - Origin: Probably American Date: Circa 1880 Period/Style: Chippendale Revival Materials: Walnut, burl walnut veneer, lightwood crossbanding and stringing, mixed secondary woods, and brass hardware Form: Bonnet-top high chest of drawers or highboy Description: An imposing American Chippendale Revival burl walnut highboy, circa 1880, constructed in two parts. The upper case has a broken-scroll bonnet pediment terminating in carved floral rosettes and centered by a turned flame finial above an applied shell-carved reserve. Two short drawers over three graduated long drawers are framed by richly figured burl walnut veneers, lightwood crossbanding, and fluted quarter columns. The lower case has one long drawer over three short drawers, a shell-carved center, shaped apron, carved cabriole legs, and claw-and-ball feet. Dimensions: 85.5 in. H, 45.5 in. W, 29 in. D overall.
