Monumental Carved Oak Mirrored Sideboard - Origin: Continental Europe, probably France or Belgium Date: Circa 1880-1900 Period/Style: Renaissance Revival, Neo-Renaissance Materials: Carved oak, mixed secondary woods, beveled mirror glass, and metal hardware Form: Monumental mirrored sideboard or buffet Description: Monumental late-19th-century Continental Renaissance Revival carved oak sideboard, probably French or Belgian. The architectural superstructure centers a large arched beveled mirror beneath a domed crest with urn finial, scrolling volutes, masks, seated classical youths, and a deeply carved floral garland. Figural terms, foliate panels, urn finials, and a carved apron enrich the mirror surround. The breakfront base incorporates open side galleries supported by full-length female caryatids, a central dovetailed drawer with mask and scrolling foliage, and a shelved cabinet enclosed by doors carved in high relief with a rooster and heron among luxuriant foliage. Marks: Handwritten inventory notation MA 5462 to the reverse. Dimensions: 126 in. H, 84 in. W, 25.5 in. D.
