Pair Gothic Revival Storage Chairs - Date: Circa 1880-1900 Period/Style: Gothic Revival with Aesthetic Movement influence Materials: Carved and pierced hardwood with metal hinges Form: Storage-seat hall chairs Description: Pair of late 19th-century carved and pierced hardwood Gothic Revival hall chairs with Aesthetic Movement influence. Each tall architectural back is surmounted by an ogee-gabled crest with trefoil piercing and fleur-de-lis finials, framing a relief-carved panel of a long-legged wading bird taking prey amid aquatic plants. Pierced foliate side panels and shaped aprons rise above a hinged solid seat opening to a shallow storage compartment, on turned and faceted front legs. Dimensions: Each 51 in. H, 21 in. W, 19 in. D; seat height 18.5 in.
