Three Chinese Qing Blue and Red Bird Plates - Origin: China, probably Jingdezhen Date: 18th century, probably early 18th century Period/Style: Qing dynasty, probably Kangxi period Materials: Porcelain with underglaze cobalt blue and iron-red decoration Description: Group of three Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain plates, probably Kangxi period, early 18th century. Each shallow circular plate is freely painted in underglaze cobalt blue with birds among flowering prunus branches, grasses, and rockwork, with iron-red details defining the birds and blossoms. The related but individually rendered compositions display the fluid brushwork and asymmetrical naturalism associated with early Qing bird-and-flower porcelain. Each has an unmarked recessed base within a broad foot ring. Dimensions: Each approximately 10 in. Dia. Provenance: Accompanied by a September 2, 1998 certificate from the Hong Kong Art Craft Merchants Association, Certificate No. PB683091, describing one 10 in. porcelain blue and white peach bird plate, Item WL-104, No. 16, as more than 100 years old.
