Dehua Blanc-de-Chine Seated Guanyin - Maker: Unidentified Dehua workshop; bearing an apocryphal impressed seal Origin: Dehua, Fujian Province, China Date: 20th century Period/Style: Chinese Dehua blanc-de-Chine Materials: Glazed porcelain Form: Buddhist devotional figure Description: A Chinese Dehua blanc-de-Chine porcelain figure of Guanyin seated in a posture of royal ease, the serene figure modeled with downcast eyes, elongated earlobes, a jeweled necklace, and hair arranged in a high chignon. Voluminous robes fall in deeply modeled folds around the seated body, while one hand rests upon a stack of sacred texts. The reverse bears an impressed four-character seal in archaistic script. The mark is recorded as apocryphal and should not be interpreted as proof of authorship or an earlier date. Dimensions: 12 in. H; 7 in. W; 5.5 in. D. Literature/Reference: P. J.
