American Classical Mahogany Dressing Table - Origin: American, probably Northeastern United States Date: Circa 1825-1840 Period/Style: American Classical Materials: Mahogany and mahogany veneer, secondary woods, mirror glass, and metal casters Form: Dressing table with swing mirror Description: American Classical mahogany dressing table, circa 1825-1840. The figured rectangular top surmounts two hand-dovetailed bow-front drawers fitted with faceted glass pulls. An oval beveled swing mirror is suspended between tall standards carved with spiraling acanthus and surmounted by urn-and-ball finials. The open trestle base has shaped front supports ending in carved hairy paw feet, straight rear supports, side and rear stretchers, and casters. The restrained case contrasts effectively with the boldly carved mirror standards and feet. Dimensions: 59 in. H, 40.5 in. W, 20.5 in. D.
