Bouchard, active late 19th century. Oil on canvas animal portrait presenting the head and shoulders of a horned cow frontally against a muted olive-brown ground. Broad painterly handling around the ears, horns, and hide contrasts with the more closely observed eyes and muzzle, giving the compact study considerable presence. Signed A. C. Bouchard and inscribed April 86 lower right; Presented in a period molded giltwood and gesso frame. Dimensions: 14 in. H, 17 in. W overall.
