American Classical Mahogany Commode - Origin: American Date: Circa 1840-1860 Period/Style: American Classical Materials: Mahogany and mahogany veneer, secondary woods, and white marble Form: Bedside or pot commode Description: American Classical mahogany and mahogany-veneered bedside commode, circa 1840-1860. The cylindrical case has an inset circular white marble top within a broad molded surround, above a conforming bowed cupboard door fitted with a turned knob and opening to a circular interior shelf. Raised on a conforming molded plinth base. The compact marble-top form was intended for bedside use and is also identified in American furniture cataloging as a pot commode. Dimensions: 27 in. H, 15 in. diameter.
