Victorian Walnut and Brass Hall Tree - Origin: Continental, probably French Date: Circa 1870-1890 Period/Style: Victorian Materials: Walnut, patinated cast brass, and alabaster or onyx Form: Freestanding coat and hat stand Description: Continental Victorian walnut coat and hat stand, probably French, circa 1870-1890. The tall turned standard incorporates a boldly spiraled barley-twist shaft above a substantial urn-shaped lower section and shaped tripartite base. Its cast-brass crown is fitted with four scrolling foliate arms terminating in pale alabaster or onyx knobs, together with additional decorative scrolls and floral roundels. A turned urn-and-ball finial completes the unusually decorative freestanding form. Dimensions: 68 in. H, 18 in. diameter.
