French Black Slate Architectural Clock - Origin: France Date: Circa 1880-1900 Materials: Black slate or marble, gilt metal, enamel, brass, and glass Description: French architectural mantel clock, circa 1880-1900, housed in a substantial black slate or marble temple-form case. The stepped pediment is mounted with gilt-metal classical ornament above four fluted columns. Its white enamel chapter ring has stylized Arabic numerals surrounding a gilt center signed James Grant & Son / Paris, with the opening portion worn. The two-train French movement strikes on a coiled gong. Accompanied by a winding key. Dimensions: 12 in. H, 13 in. W, 5 in. D.
