Victorian Walnut Burl Sewing Table - Origin: American Date: Circa 1870-1880 Period/Style: American Renaissance Revival Materials: Walnut, burl-walnut veneer, contrasting crossbanding, and metal hardware Form: Sewing or work table Description: American Renaissance Revival walnut sewing or work table, circa 1870-1880. The rectangular top has clipped corners and a broad contrasting crossbanded border above a burl-walnut veneered case fitted with two drawers. The lockable upper drawer opens to a divided interior for sewing implements, while the deeper lower hopper drawer provided storage for fabric and needlework. Shaped trestle supports incorporate pierced scrollwork and turned spindles joined by a carved stretcher, with carved and turned pendant ornament. Dimensions: 28.5 in. H, 24 in. W, 16.5 in. D.
