IMPORTANT TANG DYNASTY COLLECTION - LOTS 93 to 110

Exclusive session about Tang Dynasty (618 – 906) pieces from an important private collection that comes from a successful businessman dedicated to construction and investments nationally and internationally who resided in different parts of Spain and the south of France. This part of the collection, exhibited for the first time at auction, focuses on Chinese ceramics and is a collection of museum quality pieces. The family maintains the tradition of travel since the success of an ancestor who during the 1930s traveled through Manila, Shanghai, Cairo, Havana... in the practice of the sport "cesta punta", and in particular, motivated by an interest in discovering different cultures that led them to build a large collection. In general, their interest in art is such that their collection includes pieces of both Asian and European origin.

The acquisition of the collection began in the 90's and was built during years of study in Madrid and in many places as Paris, New York, Hong Kong, Spain and Germany; in reputable antique dealers such as "Arch Angel" in Hong Kong and international auctions such as Nagel. Specialists have also collaborated in the selection, study and verification of the pieces, as can be seen in the accompanying documentation: invoices, studies and reports.

Jade ornament, Hongshan culture

Jade carved in the shape of a horse's hoof or mati 马蹄, conical and hollowed out in the centre. The rim is made at an acute angle, fluted at the back and slightly higher. The colour of the jade is greenish and light with flecks of brownish and dark tones. It shows patina and wear.

This type of object was used as a hair ornament. It has a small hole on each side above the lower rim for the insertion of a pin. This peculiar type of jade ornamentation is one of the most representative ones found in the burials of the elite of the late Hongshan culture, which flourished in Neolithic northeastern China. The sites in this area were excavated during the 20th century.
