Bidspirit auction | Chinese silk painting ‘Still Lifes’,


Chinese silk painting ‘Still Lifes’, Qing dynasty - Ink, watercolour and pigments on silk. It shows two elaborate compositions of still lifes with traditional Chinese elements. The first, in the manner of an offering, shows a small altar with fruit, plates, incense burners, vases filled with beautiful flowers and a large glass fish tank in the centre. The second, arranged below, is characterised by a large wooden panel framing small paintings, along with scrolls, a painting element, white chrysanthemums in bloom on bronze vases, and small white jade elements such as seals and a small ruyi sceptre. The chromatic palette and the fine workmanship of the details, which together make up a piece of exquisite quality, are outstanding.  Signed and stamped on the left side ‘臣 蒋廷錫恭畫’.
