Large Shoushan seal ‘Double Dragon’, Qing dynasty - Made of amber and reddish shoushan. The piece, with a square base, is crowned by the carving of two imperial dragons joined at the centre of the torso, with their faces facing in opposite directions. The creatures are sculpted with great vigour, with meticulous details in the scales, manes and facial features that show powerful fangs and prominent eyes. The four sides of the square body are covered with an extensive calligraphic inscription engraved and inked in emerald green. The base contains carved characters in a sigillary style. The piece sits on a silk pedestal and comes in its original box lined with a label. Qing dynasty (1644–1912). Size: 11.2 x 12.2 x 12.2 cm Weight: 2795 g Origin: French private collection
