Carved white jade plaque ‘Deity’, Shang dynasty - White jade with areas of ochre colouring. The piece is circular, decorated on the front with a taotie mask above which is the face of a deity with a broad smile, deep-set eyes, a broad nose and prominent eyebrows. The reverse is adorned with archaic motifs. Shang dynasty (c. 1600–1046 BC) or later. Size: 5.5 x 1.1 x 5.4 cm Weight: 49 g Provenance: · Collection of Tommy Lam, Hong Kong, since 1980.
