Carved jade figure ‘Fierce Dragon’, Western Han dynasty - Made of yellowish jade covered by an extensive patina and mineral alterations in ochre and reddish-brown tones. It depicts a dragon in a dynamic and powerful posture, with its head raised, its jaws open showing its fangs and a long stylised beard. The meticulous high relief carving that defines the musculature, claws and spiral scroll patterns decorating the torso and limbs is particularly noteworthy.
